videogamedunkey, a popular video game reviewer on YouTube with over 7 million subscribers, decided to start his own indie game publishing company. No, none of those words are found in the Bible, but it’s true – Dunkey is now in the game publishing business.

In the video, Dunkey said that more than 11 years of honest, straight-forward reviews taught him what he needed to know to separate the video game wheat from the weak sauce chaff to bring audiences the very best in indie gaming. He claimed that through his channel he had put “millions of eyes” on independent darlings like Enter the dungeon, Celestial, hollow knightand Subtitle – games that, without his approval, would probably have been great, but hey, every little bit counts, right?

According to Dunkey, his new company Bigmode, represented by an adorable frog mascot, will lend its not-to-be-taken-lightly stamp of approval to the industry’s next indie hit. In his pitch to potential developers, he said, “I’m not looking for creative control, but I want to be involved. I’m sick of sitting on the sidelines waiting for great games to appear. I want to get in there and help make it happen.

Dunkey encouraged interested developers at any stage of the development process to apply. However, according to the fine print, games that implement NFTs or blockchain technology are not allowed. It also calls on programmers, artists and other video game professionals to share their portfolios as part of a networking initiative to connect developers to the people they need to succeed.

The video seemed to indicate that Dunkey would continue to work on his channel, so don’t expect to see any less of his harsh criticism anytime soon. It will be a while before the first Bigmode game is released, but whatever it is, hopefully it will be good.
