TikTok Now, a standalone BeReal copy app, is now available in markets outside the US, Tech Crunch reports. The TikTok Now feature was first announced last week and is integrated into the TikTok app for US users.

The app gained traction in the days following its September 18 release. Analytics firm Sensor Tower tells The edge that TikTok Now ranks in the top 10 social media apps in 39 countries so far and it is in the top 100 apps in 24 countries.

TikTok Now sends a notification to users once a day, prompting them to take a photo or video within a certain time limit to share with friends, and just like the ascendant BeReal, users cannot see what their friends have published as long as they do not share theirs. contents. TikTok adds a 10-second video feature – BeReal only allows stills – but otherwise the two are nearly identical.

In US versions of the TikTok app, the Now tab appears next to users’ For You pages. When announcing the Now feature, TikTok said it may become a standalone app in regions outside of the US in the future. The company said it is experimenting with Now over the next few weeks.

As BeReal’s popularity skyrockets, other platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and Snapchat have all been working on similar – or identical – features to this one. IG Candid was discovered by leakers in August, although Instagram said at the time that it was an internal prototype only and not available to the public. Snapchat’s dual camera feature shares some elements with BeReal, namely the ability to take photos using the front and back cameras at the same time, but it doesn’t go so far as to send out random notifications every day prompting users to post . So far, BeReal has managed to captivate people as a kind of anti-social social media platform and is still quite rudimentary. Other platforms are probably testing the waters to see if they can do better.
