If you play PC games or own a Steam Deck, now is the time to take vampire survivors. The indie megahit is very close to its 1.0 release, but before that, the price is expected to increase tomorrow, September 21. Developer Poncle has yet to reveal the game’s full price, but it will be higher than the current $2.99 you can get it for on Steam.

vampire survivors launched in Steam Early Access in December, and it has remained so cheap, even though it has attracted a huge following and the developers have added much more content through frequent updates. It’s also available to Microsoft’s PC Game Pass subscribers, but this is your last chance to get it on Steam for around the price of a cup of coffee.

If you are not too familiar with vampire survivors or why its fans never stop espousing the value of an indie game, it’s a bullet hell-style rogue-lite where you try (and fail) to survive an onslaught of gothic enemies with a variety of unique characters to unlock. The graphics are all sprite-based and your only control is movement of your character with an analog stick. As enemies grow in numbers and power, you level up and find more auto-fire bonuses to fend them off. It quickly escalates into a chaotic harmony of countless enemies and overpowered weapons with a euphoric “one more run!” hook – which is appropriate since its creator Luca Galante was doing software development in the gaming industry.

Between my colleague Jay Peters and I, we’ve logged over 100 hours of play combined – although it’s not uncommon to hear individual players double that on their own – and most of it has been on our respective Steam Decks. . vampire survivors has found such an ideal home on Valve’s portable console that it consistently ranks among the the best deck games by total hours played, even beating AAA behemoths like Ring of Elden and Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered. All for $2.99 - for the rest of the day, at least.
